KOM Software's CTO Wins InfoWorld Technology Leadership Award

Kamel Shaath Recognized for Business Leadership

Ottawa, ON Canada – August 16, 2011 — KOM Software, Inc., creator and world leading provider of storage management solutions for secure archiving compliant data protection and retention, today announced that Kamel Shaath has won the IDG’s InfoWorld Technology Leadership Award as the sole winner in the Business Leadership category.

Chief technology officers are often the unsung heroes of IT. They may drive new technology development for customer-facing and/or internal use. They may manage and improve the core technology that underpins the business operations. In any case, they translate the promise of technology into business benefit. Each year, the InfoWorld Technology Leadership Awards honor senior IT executives who have demonstrated leadership within their companies and in the IT community.

“Technology leadership is more important than ever, given the strong pressures on all organizations due to the recent recession to figure out how to grow again with fewer resources. But leadership is not just about making the best in tough times, but of seeing what others do not and acting on that vision. With several technology trends coalescing into a fundamental consumerization that changes not only the technology mix but also user expectations as to their role in technology, the landscape in which technology leadership has changed. It's no longer the province of senior IT leaders, though the cut-above thinkers among them remain in the best position to lead. InfoWorld's first 10 Technology Leadership Awards winners show that essential combination of creativity, vision, management, and political savvy that are necessary to stand out from their peers in helping their businesses grow, in rearchitecting their IT strategies, in deploying critical technologies, and in innovation technologies themselves. We salute these leaders, and hope they inspire many others as well,” said Galen Gruman, Executive Editor/News and Features, InfoWorld.

Inspired by his vision for corporate, environmental and social responsibility, Kamel Shaath played a key role in the creation of KOM’s Junk-A-Juke Upgrade Program.
“…this effort was about business leadership beyond the confines of the IT role, and Shaath found a way to leverage his business operations to help clients by reducing disposal costs, stand out from competitors, and help a charity hurt by the recent recession by converting discards into donations”, reported Gruman.

“I am honored to be recognized with this award,” said Kamel Shaath, CTO, KOM Networks, “This is a great recognition from InfoWorld, a prestigious publication, for the efforts and commitment that our KOM family has undertaken with this program. We draw inspiration from our surroundings and especially our customers. Recognizing that innovation is often inhibited by budgetary constraints as well as vendor and technology lock-down, this program has allowed us to share in our own good fortunes as we celebrate our 42nd year in business and address the needs of our customers while paving the road for others to pay-it-forward. We have seized an opportunity to leverage obsolete storage devices that customers are sometimes forced to use because of budgetary constraints, or have to spend money to discard, and provide them with a vehicle to move into a state-of-the-art secure archive solution while safeguarding our environment through recycling and then using those proceeds to support the plight of hungry children.”
