Transparent Optical Devices for Solaris/'x86
Ottawa, ON Canada – August 4, 1994
KOM Software is pleased to announce that their OptiFile® product has been implemented on the Alpha systems from Digital Equipment running OSF/1. This implementation provides the same facilities as the VMS™ version of OptiFile II. OptiFile II is implemented as a device driver which permits rewritable, multi-function and WORM optical disks to appear to the system as magnetic disks. Since the drive appears to be a magnetic disk, the standard system utilities are used to create and access file systems on the optical media.
Digital's Alpha systems implement a high performance 64 bit architecture. The OSF/1 operating system is based on the Mach kernel and provides and UNIX™-like interface to application programs.
All of the production drives which are supported by the VMS version of OptiFile II are supported by the OSF/1 version. These drives include 525" WORM, rewritable and multi-function drives as well as 12" WORM drives.
OptiFile II is also available for Q-bus, UNIBUS, and BI bus VAX™ systems, as well as the VAXstation™ 3100, 3520 and 3540 and MicroVAX™ 3100 systems. OptiFile II is also supported by RISC/Ultrix workstations from Digital Equipment, SPARCstation™ and SPACRserver™ systems from Sun Microsystems and NEWS™ workstations from Sony.
