KOM Networks announces the support for Sony WDD-931 WORM Drive
Ottawa, ON Canada – May 14, 1992
KOM Networks is pleased to announce the latest release of their OptiFile® II product which permits rewritable and WORM optical disks to appear to the system as magnetic disks. The new version fully supports the Sony WDD-931 WORM drive. OptiFile II is implemented as a device driver which permits rewritable, multi-function or WORM optical disks to appear to the systems as magnetic disks.
The Sony WDD-931 drive is capable of reading all previous media of either CAV or CLV type, and is also capable of writing to all but the 1091 Gb CAV media (WDM-3DA0). The drive is implemented as a single unit with embedded controller. It is connected via either single-ended or differential SCSI built-in termination. The drive is designed for easy rack mounting and has a read-ahead cache to improve performance.
OptiFile II is available for Q-bus, UNIBUS and BI bus VAX™ systems, the VAXstation™ 3100, 3520 and 3540 and MicroVAX™ 3100. OptiFile II is also supported by SPARCstation™ and SPARCserver™ systems from Sun Microsystems and Sony NEWS™ workstations.
