KOM Networks Joins FibreAlliance Consortium
Supports Storage Area Network Standards
Kanata, ON Canada – January 21, 2000
KOM Networks, a leading developer of Storage Management software announces their successful acceptance into the FibreAlliance, an EMC®-sponsored association of vendors driving open software standards for managing Storage Area Networks (SANs). KOM Networks joins forces with other leading software and hardware vendors like, Agilent Technologies, Siemens AG, Hewlett Packard and Exabyte that support standards which enable rapid, cost-effective storage area network implementation.
OptiStorm® is the cornerstone of KOM Networks' leading edge Storage Management architecture that provides IT professionals with a virtual storage infrastructure for building large-scale SANs using multiple devices including RAID, TAPE, WORM or rewritable Magneto-Optical and DVD-RAM devices.
The goal of the FibreAlliance is to develop and implement common methods for managing heterogeneous SANs. To this end, the FibreAlliance has specified a management information base (MIB), which has become the first widely-accepted method for monitoring and controlling the heterogeneous interconnect devices in Fibre Channel-based SANs. KOM Networks plans to continue its collaboration with the FibreAlliance to provide tightly integrated, complementary monitoring and management solutions for Fibre Channel-based networks.
"KOM Networks has solid, proven experience in the area of complex multi-platform storage management," states Kamel Shaath, VP Development of KOM. "This uniquely positions us to provide customers the highest level of availability and performance of storage devices and sub-systems running in SAN environments. We look forward to contributing our expertise to the standards-building process for this state-of-the-art technology."
"The FibreAlliance is demonstrably committed to delivering open solutions to customers' most pressing challenges for deploying storage area networks," said Michael Peterson, President of Strategic Research Corporation, a market research firm located in Santa Barbara. "By agreeing on common methods for managing SANs, committing to a delivery schedule for products that employ these methods, and then promoting standardization of the specification, this innovative initiative is firmly advancing customers' ability to realize the significant benefits SANs have to offer."
A key benefit to FibreAlliance members is integration of their products with leading enterprise management solutions, including EMC's management software framework for EMC Enterprise Storage, Hewlett-Packard Company's OpenView software, Legato Global Enterprise Management of Storage, and KOM Networks' - OptiStorm Storage Management software. In addition, other storage management frameworks will be able to implement the new FibreAlliance management approach.
